Playing at Dumbarnie Golf Club

Although the clubhouse on the outside is barn-style, inside is everything but that. As you walk through the entrance doors, in front of you is the pro shop and to the right the bar and restaurant area. 

However, you cannot take your eyes off the golf course in the background, which you can see through the large panoramic windows.

The pro shop is small in size, but nicely laid out and full of the latest clothing and accessories. 

In the restaurant area, it's open plan with four large tv screens that sit above the bar on the wall. The modern nature of the inside really makes it feel homely, especially with the large fireplace.

The menu isn’t extensive, but also isn’t your typical golf food, so there were (and are) non-golfers who visit Dumbarnie just for the food and wonderful views.

Practice Facilities

Located by the first tee is a large practice two/three tiered putting green. In this distance is a large grass driving range with balls and club cleaning brushes waiting for you. 

Then, just a short walk away is a short game area which includes multiple bunkers and another large green for you to practice on. 

You could spend hours just using these facilities if you really wanted to. 

A Touch of Class Before You Play Your Round

Our tee time was fast approaching, so we made our way to the First Tee. 

The starter then came out of his hut with four small welcome bags and walked us to a barrel. On the barrel was a local bottle of whisky with four shot glasses half-filled and a nice message ‘Enjoy!’ 

The starter then gave us some more information about the course, where to go, what to expect and a few bits of local knowledge.

Somewhat similar to Trump International Scotland (link to other blog article), the large dunes are a feature in every hole you play. 

The fairways are like carpet and greens to die for.

There is a very fine balance with risk-reward driveable par fours, split-fairways and tricky Par 3s. 

The wind plays a crucial part on the golf course. If you’re fortunate like our group, we played back-to-back days and had a completely different wind direction each day. 

So it felt like we were playing a different golf course.

The overwhelming feeling from our group was “when are we coming back to play again.” 

Everybody had a fabulous time, the course is extremely fun and the service levels are exceptional.

Dining at Dumbarnie Links

Our group ate before and after our rounds. In the morning, there is a breakfast menu with half a dozen different options. 

The lunch menu is a little more extensive and you certainly don’t feel you’re about to eat at a ‘normal’ golf club.

The waiters and waitresses were very friendly, informative and couldn’t do enough for you. 

All you had to do was make the tricky decision about what you wanted to eat - although, they even helped with recommendations too.

All in all a fabulous trip to Dumbarnie Links. 

You can certainly understand why there is so much noise made about the venue.
